Crafting for Mental Health: Why We Do What We Do

I’m a wife, mom, and grandma. In my previous job, I was an accountant but in 2014 decided to leave corporate life to spend more time with my children, for my mental health and for them. Now I take care of my grandchildren and parents, during the day and work on projects at night.

I discovered my passion a few years back when my husband and I were invited to a wedding.  I found the perfect outfit but couldn’t find the accessories to go with it. As I passed a well know bookstore, I noticed a magazine with a picture of a beautiful bracelet on the cover that would go perfectly with my outfit, I went into the store and picked up the magazine with excitement to find out where I could purchase this beautiful bracelet. To my disappointment the bracelet was not for sale, it was advertising for a bead store. I had to make the bracelet myself. The advertisement worked, I decided to visit this store, luckily it was in my town. I went to a store I didn’t even know existed. As soon as I walked in the door, immediately I was in love, in love with the freedom of making whatever I want, in any color I want, anytime I want.

Since then, I’ve had friends and family ask me to make different products from them, from jewelry, painted plant pots, stained woodwork, tumblers, pens, and more. I do it with pleasure and honor, knowing that they could easily go to a local store to purchase these items but instead, they asked me. They know that I will do my best and use the best materials for them. In the end, they’ll have a piece that is special to them and to me.

This has motivated me to open a store. A store that will provide the best products possible while keeping costs low.  I do in-depth research on my suppliers to get the best products and that they have high and ethical standards as I do.
